Anita, I started writing a comment about anti-splogger tools, and realized that (1) I didn't have a good answer for you off the top off my head, and (2) I wanted to do some research to see if there are good solutions out there that I missed. So, an article on splogs might be in order. ;-)

Lorelle, thanks for your encouragement! In this "give me convenience or give me death"(*) world, it's heartening to hear how the act of creation or expression (writing, engineering, art, etc.) is a process which requires effort, time, persistence. That it's not always easy —but, it's not always difficult, either.

I am so THRILLED that you "got it". Too many people think that gimmicks and torture tests are the only way to stop comment spam. Come on, you can't stop comment spam that way. You have to stop it by the roots by making the business of comment spam suffer. We can't do that with our blogs. We can only filter the trash out.

Good work and I'm so glad you understand the importance of comments enough to open them up to the world but not the evil doers.

If you figure out a way to stop the scrapers, I am all ears. I've been searching for help over on Food Blog S'cool, and everyone's coming up basically empty. Filing AdSense complaints seems to be futile -- the scrapers have had the full use of my content to make money for weeks before any punitive measures force them to remove it.
